The Universe as a "Mosque"

Islam is a religion that inevitably leads to the creation of a virtuous comprehensive culture and civilization which benefits not only Muslims, but also non-Muslims and all the other worldly creatures as well. Islam also creates individuals who through a complex hierarchy of institutions and establishments are organized in a community (ummah) which is well equipped to meet the challenges of its and its members' earthly mission. This is so because life in its totality is seen as both the field and a form of worship ('ibadah) in Islam. Every life activity believers effortlessly transform into an act of worship. Every part of the earth where they live, believers, as a result, turn into a vibrant place of worship as well. They turn it into a mosque (masjid). Thus, Islam, believers, worship as a lifestyle, and the notion of the mosque, one originating from the other and each one needing the others for its functioning and continued existence, are inseparable.

Broadening Our Comprehension of the Qur'an

The Qur'an provides a comprehensive understanding of life. We can go to the story of Adam  (upon him be peace) in which Allah  had Adam  and his wife removed from Paradise. It's interesting that, in the Qur'an, Allah used two grammatical forms al-jama' wa al-muthana (the plural and the dual) in this verse. Allah says:

"Qala ihbita minha jamee'an."

"All of you get out of paradise."

All of you indicates three or more, the plural form. Sometimes when Allah  was talking to Adam  and his wife He would say,

"Qulna ahbita minha jamee`an."

This is muthana, the dual form, meaning:

"You both get out of paradise."

Why did Allah use the plural form? Because every human being is the son or daughter of Adam .

Special: The Hidden Art of Islam
At the British Museum, a collection of artifacts from the Muslim world is on show which tells the history of a journey to Mecca always forbidden to non-Muslims. It features a succession of examples of the rich visual language of Islamic culture past and present, artwork created to reflect the powerful experience for any Muslim making the Hajj pilgrimage to Islam's most sacred city and its most sacred building, the Ka'aba. However, an art form not usually associated with Islam is also on show, a form many believe is prohibited by Islam - portraits, depictions of human figures and whole tableaux showing pilgrims performing the most important pillar of the Muslim faith.
